Learn how to use the Cavill Sconce to create a cozy, well-lit reading nook. This guide covers placement, bulb tips, and common mistakes to avoid.
Quick answer
The Cavill Sconce works beautifully as reading nook lighting when mounted 60–66 inches above the floor and paired with its included 2700K LED bulb for warm, ambient glow.
Why the Cavill Sconce fits a reading nook
The Cavill Sconce's bent arm and sandblasted globe direct light downward without harsh glare, making it ideal for focused reading areas. Its compact 6-inch width fits tight spaces beside a chair or sofa, and the matte finish blends with modern decor.
Since it's UL listed for dry locations, it's safe for living rooms, bedrooms, or any indoor nook. The included 2700K LED bulb provides warm light that reduces eye strain during extended reading sessions.
How to place the Cavill Sconce for your reading nook
- Choose the wall position: Mount the sconce on the wall beside your reading chair, about 12–18 inches to the side of the seating area. This keeps the light source out of your direct line of sight while illuminating the book or magazine. Common mistake: mounting directly behind the chair causes shadows on the page.
- Set the correct height: Install the sconce so the center of the globe is 60–66 inches above the floor. For a seated person, this places the light slightly above eye level, reducing glare and casting light downward onto the reading material. Checkpoint: measure from the floor to the center of the globe, not the top of the fixture.
- Use the included bulb: The Cavill Sconce comes with a 6W 2700K LED bulb. Keep this bulb for warm, ambient light that's easy on the eyes. If you prefer a brighter task light, swap to a 2700K LED with higher lumens, but stay within the 60W max rating. Common mistake: using a cool-white bulb (4000K+) can make the nook feel harsh and uninviting.
